Sept. Sunday Ride: East Bay Backroads + Cornering Lines Practice

Join us on Sunday Sept 24 for a morning of exploring East Bay backroads while practicing a key motorcycle skill: delaying your cornering apex for smoother, safer, happier riding through curves.

We will ride a 65 mile out-and-back route through the Oakland Hills to the Martinez area, with a stop at Port Costa. Expect mostly narrow backroads, with plenty of opportunity for us to help each other brush up on our cornering technique.

“Riding Tips: Choosing Your Line” by Keith Code – less a ‘how to’, but more of an explanation of why the topic is important:

Riding in the Zone: Four Reasons Why You Need to Use Cornering Lines:

(I will be scanning the Internets for good reads on cornering prior to our ride… should you find an article to share, please send to this event’s participants!)

Our Day’s Agenda:

8:00 am – meet at Peet’s Lakeshore Oakland

8:30 am – Skills Review – What’s a delayed apex? Why does it matter?

9:00 am – KSU! Let’s Go!

(We will stop at Port Costa about half-way through…)

~12:00 pm – 65 miles – Ride ends at an Orinda Chevron, with plenty of lunch options nearby if you wish.

Some Guidelines for the Ride:

You must arrive ON TIME, on a working machine with a FULL TANK OF GAS, wearing protective gear from HEAD TO TOE. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate late arrivals.

Do a motorcycle safety check before riding – tires OK? Got brakes? Oil? All gear secured?

Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly via Meetup. Guests are welcome but Please let the group know using Meetup.

Bring a printed version of the route or program it into your GPS. Contact me directly with any questions on how to do this. Do not rely upon Google Maps, as it will malfunction if you lose cell signal during the ride.

Before participating in this ride, read the HOMOTO Rules Of The Ride ( ), and apply generously before, throughout and after.

Your ‘Yes’ RSVP for this ride confirms your acceptance of the Homoto Liability Release statement, which you may review .at: ( )
